Fort Victoria


Fort Victoria built 1853, 2 miles west of Yarmouth.  Built to defend the solent from the French invasion. but soon became out of date. Handed over to the Royal Engineers in 1890 as a mine depot and remained in their hands until after the first wqorld war. It was usewd again as part of our deferences in 1939-45.  Demolished to it's present level in 1970.
